2009-2010 PLAN FOR HORIZON ELEMENTARY
Language Arts – School Wide
1. The AYP Proficiency Goal for Language Arts (Grades 3-8) is at least 83%. To accomplish the AYP Proficiency Goals, the following sub goals will be achieved:
- Teachers will examine 2008-2009 CRT data to identify students who were in the 2b or barely 3 range (scaled score 160-165). Interventions will be planned to increase test scores.
- Teachers will teach test-taking skills.
- Teachers will take students through the writing process 7 times during the year using different writing genres.
- The school will have 100% implementation of the “Words Their Way” spelling program.
- Grades 3 – 5 will have 100% implementation of the “Vocabulary for Achievement” program.
- The school will have 100% implementation of guided reading at a student’s instructional level.
- 83% of our students will read on grade level by year end according to the DRA.
- Fourth and fifth grade students will prepare for the Direct Writing Assessment (given February of their 5th grade year) by implementation of the software on utahwrite.com.
Math – School Wide
1. The AYP Proficiency Goal for Math (Grades 3-8) is at least 45%. To accomplish the AYP Proficiency Goals, the following sub goals will be achieved:
- Teachers will examine 2008-2009 data to identify students who were in the 2b or barely 3 range (scaled score 160-165). Interventions will be planned to increase test scores.
- Grades 1- 5 will implement 30 minutes of math enrichment three times a week.
- The school will have 100% implementation of the “Growing With Math” program.
- The “Pinpoint Math” program will be implemented for special education students.
Science – School Wide
Last year 126 of our fourth and fifth grade students, which represents 64%, were proficient on the Science CRT. Our goal is to increase the number of proficient students to 75%.
- Teachers will examine 2008-2009 CRT data to identify students who were in the 2b or barely 3 range (scaled score 160-165). Interventions will be planned to increase test scores.
- All grades will follow the district curriculum map.
- Students in grades 1-5 will read and write about concepts in the district science core.
- All grades will be taught the science vocabulary needed to be proficient on the CRT.
- Fourth and fifth grade students will take pre- and post- assessments for the science topics and will practice on UTIPs.
